TRACE ADKINS The King’s Gift

It is a surprise to hear veteran hit-maker Trace Adkins say that making THE KING’S GIFT - his upcoming Christmas album of Celtic carols - has been the most definitive experience of his recording career. For the past sixteen years, he has turned down requests to make a holiday album because a "country Christmas" just wasn’t what he envisione

In fact, his heart had long been set on the timeless world sounds and instrumentation of an ancient genre that pays tribute to his own Scottish lineage. It was that desire, along with some elite musicians, that made his latest and most unique album possible. He is joined in this effort by The Chieftains, a world reknowned, traditional Irish ensemble who are credited with popularizing their traditional sound since their formation 50 years ago. Also featured are Scottish vocalist Alyth McCormack, multi-award winning family group of 30 years, The Isaacs, Kevin Costner and daughter Lily Kostner, and Rock drummer Kenny Aronoff.

The King's Gift (or “Tiodhlac An Righ”, in Gaelic) transports the listener to a time of mystery, valor, magic and honor. Adkins’ rich baritone is backed by the expected keyboards, acoustic, steel and bass guitars of American folk music in harmony with the weissenborn, mandolin, uillean pipe, penny whistle, violin, viola, cello, harp, piano and organ.

Adkins' tour this holiday season is a return to the intimate theater setting, where he is joined by a 12 piece ensemble – a quartet string section, female vocalists and a range of traditional instruments. Trace will alternate between fireside story-telling of anecdotes (both personal and historical) and performances of classic carols.
